Planning and Inspections

The department's purpose is to serve the City of Thomasville by protecting the public's health, safety, and general welfare.  This protection is provided through the enforcement of the technical codes and the General Statues set forth by the State of North Carolina, as well as, Thomasville's Code of Ordinances.  It is our goal to enforce these codes in a professional manner and provide knowledge and understanding to contractors and citizens of Thomasville.  In addition, we accept plans for review and issuance of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits for new construction, additions to existing structures, and alterations to existing structures.  The department also issues permits for demolition, storage buildings,  signs, and swimming pools.

A building  permit can be applied for online, but it must have a written application form attached at the end of your request.   You can request a stand a lone permit for plumbing, mechanical and/or electrical trades by telephone or by going online to our permitting website Building Permit .   To add your subcontractor permit request to an existing building permit, please call or email the permit technician with your scope of work.  Your permit information will then be emailed to you along with steps on how to pay for the permit, request an inspection, or how to view the results.

Also you can come, in person, to our office to obtain your permits and pay by check or cash.  If you prefer to pay by credit card, there is access to a computer in our reception area.
